From the office to the trees.
As we learn to navigate an era of technology, it becomes essential to balance that digital pull with our inner wisdom. Recognizing our own natural rhythms and honoring where we come from allows us to feel resilient and strong, rather than drained by the speed of modern life.
Ecotherapy — often known as "Walk & Talk therapy" — is an optional treatment modality that brings the therapeutic process into natural, outdoor spaces. I see this format as an invitation toward nature reconnection: a practice of reciprocal healing for ourselves and the living world we belong to.
Ecotherapy for Walk & Walk
-
• Nervous System Regulation — Drawing from the work of Stephen Porges and Peter Levine, the "soft fascination" of the natural world allows a stressed nervous system to down-regulate from fight, flight, or freeze into a sense of safety. Research into Biophilia shows that nature significantly lowers cortisol, heart rate, and blood pressure.
• The Mirror of Nature — By walking the land with intention, we use the mirror of wild nature to see ourselves more clearly, allowing our hearts to be cracked open by life rather than hardened by it.
• Side-by-Side Connection — For many, talking while in motion feels more natural and less intimidating than traditional seated therapy. Physical movement can help unlock "stuck" emotions and facilitates deeper cognitive processing.
• Ecological Belonging — We cultivate the ability to listen to and be moved by the earth, fostering a sense of belonging that transcends the individual self.
• The Wisdom of the Rhythms — Nature teaches us about seasons and impermanence, helping us honor the necessary "winters" and emergent "springs" within our own lives.
-
Walk & Talk sessions are a professional mental health service held in predetermined outdoor locations. While physical movement is a beneficial byproduct, our primary goal remains your therapeutic growth rather than fitness or exercise.
-
• Confidentiality — Being in public carries a slight risk to privacy. We will collaborate on a plan for how to handle these moments beforehand.
• Pace & Comfort — You set the pace of our movement, and we remain in constant communication regarding your physical and emotional comfort.
• Safety — We will follow all health and safety guidance regarding natural terrain.
• Format — Ecotherapy is currently offered in an individual format only, for adults 18 and older.
"We are not individuals. We are a collaboration. We are a conversation between the forest and our own lungs." — Sophie Strand
